Situated in the woods on Northside drive, The Quisenberry Libary is a 25,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility that opened in May of 2010.
It won the AIA MS Merit Award (Architecture/New Construction, Architectural Interiors)......which from what I can tell, must be awarded to buildings that are sent back to our time from the future because this think looks like it came straight outta Star Trek. Honestly it feels exactly like what filmmakers in the 1970's envisioned the future to look like - a la 2001 A Space Odyssey or THX 1138. It's really contrasty with stone and rounded bits and sharp metallic angles.
It's also really easy to miss; the building is completely hidden by trees and set back from the road. Look for the sign out front and turn down a short, winding drive to the parking lot.
There's a lovely pond and walking trail behind the main building. The trails connect up to the Nature Center. I didn't spend much time here, but I'm coming back when it's a little cooler outside - I'll update this entry then.
